Modeling and Evaluation of Video Streaming
Abstract
We present a generic framework for performance evaluation of video streams. We embrace the perspective of a streaming application, and model the playback buffer level at given network and playback conditions. This model enables flexible evaluations of a wide variety of streaming methods and protocols. A streaming testbed is set up implementing the model and tested against real streaming traffic. Universal achievable limits and quality trade-offs in any streaming process are explored.
